SQUARELLISM

Pixels are the smallest square-shaped units of an image on a TV or computer screen. The square sprocket holes (or perfs) on the sides of each frame of vintage film are used to guide it through the projector. The squares in needlecraft canvas are the openings for the colorful threads. It seems like I’ve been working with charts, graphs, grids and squares most of my life—not mentioning any names. 

So, I thought, what the heck, why not paint little wood squares and create designs. Puzzles used to be made of wood pieces; but nowadays most are constructed of cardboard. The story of my 82-year-old life is that one piece of the puzzle ofttimes goes missing. But with my art, I can keep it together. My writing is another story.
